Why should you care?

Cool Mayors Fire-up Hot Debate
ICLEI methods include infiltrating local government. Organization representatives seek to be hired into local planning departments or they provide “toolkits” to staff. Too many elected officials such as Cool Mayors allow ICLEI to influence policy changes through the use of funding incentives and rewards. While some of these policies sound good on the surface, they result in consequences such as:
High-density housing scams, Traffic congestion, Open space where access is not allowed Government “partnering” with favored private businesses and non-profit agencies, using your tax money, Undermining Constitutional administration of government Managed control over your life Mismanagement of public utilities Prohibitions on natural resource management leading to increased fire hazards, lack of water, and private property restrictions, Increased taxes, fees, regulations and restrictions. Is ICLEI running your town or coming to a town near you?
Are your elected officials being lured into enacting ridiculous rules and regulations in exchange for funding? Do your elected officials know that there are long term consequences to their irresponsible actions?

The Internet is a large-scale version of the "Committees of Correspondence" that led to the first American Revolution — and with Washington's failings now so obvious and awful, it may lead to another.
People are asking, "Is the government doing us more harm than good? Should we change what it does and the way it does it?"
Pruning the power of government begins with the imperial presidency.
Too many overreaching laws give the president too much discretion to make too many open-ended rules controlling too many aspects of our lives. There's no end to the harm an out-of-control president can do.
Bill Clinton lowered the culture, moral tone and strength of the nation — and left America vulnerable to attack. When it came, George W. Bush stood up for America, albeit sometimes clumsily.
Barack Obama, however, has pulled off the ultimate switcheroo: He's diminishing America from within — so far, successfully.
He may soon bankrupt us and replace our big merit-based capitalist economy with a small government-directed one of his own design.
He is undermining our constitutional traditions: The rule of law and our Anglo-Saxon concepts of private property hang in the balance. Obama may be the most "consequential" president ever.
The Wall Street Journal's steadfast Dorothy Rabinowitz wrote that Barack Obama is "an alien in the White House."
His bullying and offenses against the economy and job creation are so outrageous that CEOs in the Business Roundtable finally mustered the courage to call him "anti-business." Veteran Democrat Sen. Max Baucus blurted out that Obama is engineering the biggest government-forced "redistribution of income" in history.
Fear and uncertainty stalk the land. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke says America's financial future is "unusually uncertain."
A Wall Street "fear gauge" based on predicted market volatility is flashing long-term panic. New data on the federal budget confirm that record-setting deficits in the $1.4 trillion range are now endemic.
Obama is building an imperium of public debt and crushing taxes, contrary to George Washington's wise farewell admonition: "cherish public credit ... use it as sparingly as possible ... avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt ... bear in mind, that towards the payment of debts there must be Revenue, that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised, which are not ... inconvenient and unpleasant ... ."
Opinion polls suggest that in the November mid-term elections, voters will replace the present Democratic majority in Congress with opposition Republicans — but that will not necessarily stop Obama.
A President Obama intent on achieving his transformative goals despite the disagreement of the American people has powerful weapons within reach. In one hand, he will have a veto pen to stop a new Republican Congress from repealing ObamaCare and the Dodd-Frank takeover of banks.
In the other, he will have a fistful of executive orders, regulations and Obama-made fiats that have the force of law.
Under ObamaCare, he can issue new rules and regulations so insidiously powerful in their effect that higher-priced, lower-quality and rationed health care will quickly become ingrained, leaving a permanent stain.
Under Dodd-Frank, he and his agents will control all credit and financial transactions, rewarding friends and punishing opponents, discriminating on the basis of race, gender and political affiliation. Credit and liquidity may be choked by bureaucracy and politics — and the economy will suffer.
He and the EPA may try to impose by "regulatory" fiats many parts of the cap-and-trade and other climate legislation that failed in the Congress.
And by executive orders and the in terrorem effect of an industrywide "boot on the neck" policy, he can continue to diminish energy production in the United States.
By the trick of letting current-law tax rates "expire," he can impose a $3.5 trillion 10-year tax increase that damages job-creating capital investment in an economy struggling to recover. And by failing to enforce the law and leaving America's borders open, he can continue to repopulate America with unfortunate illegals whose skill and education levels are low and whose political attitudes are often not congenial to American-style democracy.
A wounded rampaging president can do much damage — and, like Caesar, the evil he does will live long after he leaves office, whenever that may be.
The overgrown, un-pruned power of the presidency to reward, punish and intimidate may now be so overwhelming that his re-election in 2012 is already assured — Chicago-style.

You like to bat around statistics like...a good 10% of scientists still don't know how much of the current global warming is caused by human activity. Gee, if you had a doctor tell you that he was only 90% certain that the cigarettes you are smoking will cause lung cancer and will kill you...would you say, well, he's not 100% sure so I'll keep on smoking? Global warming is occurring. That is a scientific fact...not a theory. Exactly how much of it is caused by human activities is still unclear, but realistically, that doesn't matter. What matters is that global warming is occurring and if it continues as its current rate, within 30-50 years, humans will be trying to live on a planet that is hotter than it has ever been in human existence. This is not a world you would want to leave to your grandchildren - a world stripped of its natural resources, a world without seasons, unpredictable, ferocious weather events, water and food shortages and the wars over those resources, a world devoid of nearly 90% of the plants and animals that are currently on our planet. And in case you think you can just ignore it (be as dumb as you want to be), I suggest you remember you do not live in a vacuum. Calaveras County does not exist under a bubble. You will not be exempt from global consequences, even if you are in no way to blame. China is expected to triple its greenhouse gas production annually over the next 30 years, with India close behind. The US has also tripled its output over the last 4 years. It is no longer a question of whether we will be affected by global climate change. It is what can be managed and what has become unmanageable. Sustainability means we are going to try to limit the damage, protect our children's future - adapt to the changes that are already in the pipeline and hopefully avoid the tipping point where we can no longer adapt...where we are unable to avoid collective suicide.

The warming is a rebound from the Little Ice Age.
It was warmer in the 1930s, warmer in the medieval warm period,
the roman warm period and other times.
The recent warming is the mixture of bad measurement(including UHI in the measurements, ClimateGate, an active sun, normal climate oscillations PDO, atlantic and artic decadal oscillations) riding on top of the recovery from the Little Ice Age.
CO2 warming is very small part of that. The "greenhouse effect" due to CO2 is pretty much maxed at current or even 1950s level and will add very little warming.
And the current rate of warming very very scary at ~.7 degrees per century. With most of the warming coming in winter and night. Who is not for warmer winters?
there is not catastrophe coming from co2 increase, just a band wagon for luddites, socialists and government rent seekers.

I emigrated from Canada in 1985 because of socialism. At that time 62% of Canadians were of the entitlement mentality, and government regulation and intrusion into my life, along with excessive taxation made it unbearable to operate a private business, so I came to the land of the free, home of the brave, only to face the same thing once again. It seems you have to be an immigrant to see the true value of the US Constitution, and that's one of the reasons I take such a strong stand to support it. Creeping socialism is here, and it's like a cancer, moving slowly, but make no mistake, the results could be terminal. JSH

Thank you Mr. Hull. I hope you'll attend this Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting. Agenda item 7, sustainable communities planning grant. If you and Tonja are there, you can give Supervisor Thomas an education on Agenda 21. During the COG study session he made comment he has no knowledge of agenda 21. He is one lame duck! Shows how he is watching out for his constitutents.
This is all about power, government tells you what to do, if you don't, it inflicts its power thru fines and charges to make you comply. Government in California has already, over the years, imposed mandated requirements for we citizens to comply with and no one pays attention. Unless they are slapped with exorbitant fines. Review state water's fine history.

VUSD has just adopted a new 5 year 4Cs / 21st Century modeled after Dr. Tony Wagner's book, "The Global Achievement Gap". Dr. Wagner, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is a professor at the Harvard School of Education, so he does come with credentials. VUSD is now in the company of top schools in San Diego, Fresno, The Bay Area and Sacramento, but we have now created another problem. BHUSD is still operating on a 20th Century model, and I could use some help to create continuity K - 12. What do you think ? You and I could get on the same educational page if you read Dr. Wagner's book for starters.
